For
years, our farm has been the choice destination for all of our friends and
family with dogs. We always entertained making this a “real” business, but
always hesitated because we did not want to upset our beloved Deacon. Once we
lost Deacon, after a time of denial, we decided what better way to honor his
memory and help soothe my heartbreak than by opening up our home and hearts with
what we think to be the ideal alternative to traditional “cage” kenneling or
pet sitters who come a few times a day. We have modeled this after everything we
would have wanted if we had ever had to board our dogs. We do not cage or kennel
here. Our guest dogs “live” with us in our home as if they were our family
dog.
James
and I both work from home so we give all of our guests 24 hour care and
attention. There is the rare exception when the entire family goes out and our
guest must be left alone, but we try to keep that to a minimum. We will
treat your dog as if he were our own dog. He will eat on his own schedule, he
will eat whatever he gets at home, and he will get treats and/or meds as you
normally would give them at home. We want you to bring his dog bed and his toys.
We will set him up wherever he normally sleeps in your house. He will have
access to our fully fenced yard as often as he wants to go outside, and we will
give him extra exercise to whatever extent he is used to (i.e. leash walks,
supervised free play around the farm, fetch, soccer, whatever you want). We will
only allow your dog off leash if you are comfortable with that. Loving and
caring for dogs comes very naturally for us so we don’t have to force
affection on our guests. We pet them, talk to them, fawn over them in response
to what they like and how they act around us. We are happy to romp and rough
house outside, or we are just as content if a dog wants to sleep under the
dining room table all day.
